According to Westcon, the energy storage system will reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, and  NOx emissions by 25 per cent. Viking Energy was delivered 13 years ago and was the world's first LNG-fuelled vessel. She was built by Kleven yard and has been operating for Statoil. When the contract with Statoil was renewed for two years Eidesvik and Statoil agreed that batteries would be installed on the vessel.
