LTO battery supplier Echandia joins the Maritime Battery Forum

The Maritime Battery Forum is pleased to announce that Stockholm based Echandia has joined the forum as a member. Echandia is one of the innovators in the maritime industry, using LTO technology for their heavy-duty battery system.

Where most marine battery suppliers select NMC or LFP cells, Echandia is doing it their own way by having created a heavy-duty battery system based on LTO cells. This allows them to install less overall capacity, whilst increasing the lifetime of the batteries and offering strong performance at high C-rates, aiming for a more cost-efficient system.

Electric ferry “Bryggen” - vessel of the year 2021

Their battery systems are powering a large fleet of 23 vessels in the Kochi Water Metro project, with up to 55 vessels more to come. They are powering the electric tug “Sparky” for the Port of Auckland, built by Damen Shipyards. Together with Damen Shipyards they also won the price for vessel of the year for the electric ferry “Bryggen”, sailing around Copenhagen.

Besides this, Echandia will launch an integrated battery and hydrogen fuel cell system in 2022. This energy-efficient solution will take aim at fuel economy, dramatically reducing the need to carry excess quantities of compressed hydrogen. The MBF is excited to start working together with CEO Magnus Eriksson and his team.
