FINCANTIERI Group : Inauguration of Power4Future Lithium Battery Production Facility
MBF Member, Power4Future, a joint venture formed by Fincantieri SI and Faist Electronics, has inaugurated its new lithium-ion battery production facility in Piedimonte San Germano, Frosinone.
This facility aims to produce lithium-ion modules, battery packs, and energy storage systems (ESS) entirely in Italy. Fincantieri SI, a subsidiary of Fincantieri, specializes in integrating electric propulsion systems and complex electromechanical plants in marine and terrestrial sectors. Faist Electronics, part of the Faist Group, is known for developing and supplying complete energy storage systems, including control and power electronics.
The inauguration event featured contributions from Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and General Manager of Fincantieri, who highlighted the company's commitment to the green transition, and speeches from Fabio Patti, CEO of Power4Future, Piero Grillo, CEO of Fincantieri SI, and Gianfranco Natali, President of Faist Limited. The event also included a discussion with Stefano Piccaluga, Head of Major Investments at Invitalia, and Marco Dell’Isola, Rector of the University of Cassino. Rodolfo Sordoni, Chief of Staff at Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT), represented Minister Urso, delivering his address.
Power4Future’s products primarily serve the maritime, defense, UPS (uninterruptible power supply), and stationary sectors, including data centers and renewable energy generation systems. Lithium-ion batteries, especially for marine and stationary applications, help ships avoid running diesel generators while docked, thereby eliminating emissions and furthering Fincantieri’s dedication to green transition. This investment underscores the company's focus on transforming innovation into tangible projects.
The 25,000 square meter facility includes 8,000 square meters of production space, 2,000 square meters for storage of raw materials and finished products, and 1,000 square meters for offices. Situated in the industrial area of Piedimonte San Germano, near Cassino, the site is poised to play a strategic role in battery production from design to assembly, commercialization, and after-sales services.
The Power4Future project is supported by a development contract authorized by MIMIT and managed by Invitalia on behalf of the Ministry, involving a total investment of 27.5 million euros aimed at creating a new production unit and conducting research and development on new energy storage systems. This investment is expected to create 60 new jobs.
