November 27th 2023 - In a joint effort to analyse viable and affordable sustainability solutions for inland waterway transportation, PTC (Particuliere Transport Coöperatie b.a.) and TATA Steel NL, in collaboration with ZES (Zero Emission Services), have signed an agreement of intent for research on emissions-free sailing through the use of modular energy containers. Cast off all lines for project PTe-C (PTC & TATA’s electrification Challenge)!

Ella Hofs-Visser, Manager PR & Sustainability at PTC, stated, In addition to the limited possibilities of using HVO for the existing fleet, we have been actively participating in research projects for a decade, exploring a retrofit approach using hydrogen powder on board our inland waterway vessels. We foresee that the electrification of ships will be essential for many future applications. By aligning with ZES’s technological advancements in container inland shipping, we can potentially provide a pathway to zero-emission steel transport in the relatively near term.
