MBF Newsletter - December 2022

Season greeting from Chairman & Managing Director,

Holidays season and new year is coming and guess we all feel that time flies quickly.

2022 has been an exciting year for MBF and all members. Many challenges and uncertainties in the supply chain due to war in Europe, Energy shortage as a consequence and geopolitical tension has had some effect. At the same time and despite mentioned, this has also led to opportunities.

The constant increased focus on environmental targets has emerged also into many companies’ strategies, which again led to business for many of our members. We are still convinced that whatever energy carrier the end-user will choose, maritime batteries will play a vital role.

As the year 2022 is coming to an end, we want to thank all of you for your efforts in making batteries a success in the global maritime industry! We are seeing more battery powered ships all around the world every day, and this reflects in MBF members joining us now from Europe, the Americas, and Asia! We started 2022 with 45 MBF members and have grown to 65 members over the last 12 months. Let’s see how this growth will continue in 2023!

We are looking forward to meeting you all in Rotterdam on 8-9 March for WATTS UP 2023!

We hope you take the time and recharge your batteries this holiday season, but to get you up to speed on what to expect next year, below you can find some of our upcoming events and activities!

All the best - Lars Christian & Syb

WHAT HAPPENED IN DECEMBER?

December 2022 started with the Workboat Show in New Orleans. As always an exciting event, and this year with a significant increased presence from battery manufacturers and other members of the Maritime Battery Forum. It was great to meet up with old and new MBF members and to see that the US is getting up to speed with the electrification of their maritime industry, and as a good example of that was the announcement made by MBF members Bleutec Industries, Wärtsilä, Corvus Energy and American Bureau of Shipping on their plans for the offshore wind industry.

Most of the rest of December we have been preparing for 2023. Next year will be again an exciting year, with more MBF events and more batteries installed on board ships!
