Rimot partners with Norway-based Evoy for electric vessel-to-grid
Our members Rimot and Evoy are teaming up to deploy intelligent bi-directional fast-charging vessel-to-grid (V2G) solutions utilising Evoy’s industry-leading electric propulsion systems – a first for Canada.
The partnership agreement brings together Rimot’s innovative BlueGrid vessel-to-grid technology and Evoy’s sustainable electric marine vessel propulsion systems to turn electric vessels into virtual power plants (VPP).
Electric vessels will become economical energy storage resources to support electricity grids at their times of greatest need without negatively impacting vessel operations. New vessel-to-grid revenue streams for vessel owners further reduce the total cost of ownership of electric vessels, providing an important additional incentive for those in the marine sector to convert to electric vessels.
Evoy has been developing sustainable electric motor systems for some of the world’s largest boating brands to accelerate the shift to emission-free electric boating. Evoy’s longer-lasting, sustainable motor systems reduce greenhouse gas emissions at sea. Based in Florø, Norway, the company has now sold turnkey electric motor systems to customers in more than 16 countries.
The two companies’ development teams are working to integrate the respective systems and data for first commercial scale deployments in 2023.
Rimot’s capability with vessel-to-grid combined with Evoy’s leading electric propulsion systems will accelerate adoption of electric vessels and reduce CO2 emission for both marine vessels and the electric grid.
