ZES, ITG, and Nedcargo accelerate making inland shipping more sustainable

Inland Terminals Group (ITG), Nedcargo, and Zero Emission Services (ZES) announced that starting in April 2024, the vessel Den Bosch Max Groen will be the first vessel to operate entirely emission-free using ZES technology between Den Bosch, Maasvlakte, and Moerdijk.

In this collaboration four other vessels will follow after the Den Bosch Max Groen to, collectively, accelerate green inland shipping.

Den Bosch Max Groen – owned by Nedcargo

Inland terminal operator BCTN, a part of the Inland Terminals Group, logistics service provider Nedcargo, and technology supplier ZES share a vision of achieving emission-free operations along crucial corridors and expediting green inland shipping. Collaboration across the entire logistics chain is the shared goal, with agreements and objectives documented in Project Zero.0.

A Green Operation

The vessel Den Bosch Max Groen, completed in 2021, has a length of 90 meters and transports containers for Heineken and other clients. Owned by Nedcargo, the vessel was initially prepared for electric sailing during its construction. To sail with standard 20ft modular energy containers (ZESpacks) electrically, a few modifications are necessary. For a fully emission-free voyage, the diesel generator will be removed, and a fixed battery pack will be installed as a replacement.

The ZESpacks are charged with green energy through the latest generation of 2x 1MVA docking stations from ZES. The docking stations and ZESpacks feature a 1MW Megawatt Charging System (MCS) connector, enabling the ZESpacks to be fully charged in just 3 hours.
