DNV’s 2024 Battery Scorecard

Battery cells form the heart of today’s electric vehicles (EVs) and battery energy storage systems (BESSs), and customers need accurate information on how they perform in real-life applications to manage risk.

DNV's fifth Battery Scorecard presents findings from tests conducted on dozens of battery cells, offering insights into new technologies, degradation, useful life, and safety. DNV’s Battery Scorecard is a free, publicly available report that informs some of the most pressing questions around batteries:

  • How do batteries degrade?

  • What is a battery’s useful life?

  • What makes some batteries safer than others?

  • What trusted data are available to demonstrate performance and safety?

  • What other technologies are expected to complement or potentially displace lithium-ion as the dominant technology?

  • Who are the major battery suppliers?
