Firefighting Guideline For Maritime Battery Systems

The purpose of this Firefighting Guideline for Maritime Battery Systems is to provide guidance for creating a firefighting strategy for the battery systems on board hybrid and electric ships.

The guideline consists of four parts:

• A description of the different types of firefighting systems

• An evaluation of the different levels of fire related to battery systems

• A step-by-step approach to develop a firefighting strategy

• A summary of the firefighting strategy development process

There are many different types of maritime battery systems and many different ship types, each with their own requirements. Therefore, there is not one single firefighting strategy that suits the needs of all different types of battery systems and ship types.

This guideline is written generic for most types of battery systems in a battery space. It is expected that most is applicable for battery systems where their cabinet is considered as a battery space as well, however, special considerations should be considered for these systems.

The guideline has been developed in a collaboration between a group of members of the Maritime Battery Forum and with the input from several external firefighting experts. We want to thank the following of the Maritime Battery Forum Members for their efforts to create this guideline.
