Gerold Schulze

CEO - p&e power&energy GmbH

The idea of a power electronics platform close to the battery cell was the reason for founding p&e power&energy GmbH, in which Gerold Schulze, together with other partners and colleagues, has been driving forward the development of this innovative approach for 5 years. With 15 years of experience in the development of power electronics for solar systems in the power range up to 1 MW/1500V and 5 years of experience in the development of stationary battery storage systems, Gerold tries to show the synergies of different industrial sectors with regard to error patterns of electrical systems and possible solutions. Gerold trained as a stonemason and stone sculptor, which, in addition to his fascination with silicon, taught him humility in the face of hard physical labor. After a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, specializing in energy technology/power electronics, he completed a master's degree in renewable energies and energy efficiency, a master's degree in business law for technology companies and a master's degree in mechanical engineering.

Integration of power electronics in battery systems

Battery storage systems and the required power electronics are currently considered and treated separately. New developments bring the power electronics to the level of the battery pack or, in combination with BMS functionalities, even to the level of the battery cells. The presentation will show the advantages of these approaches, particularly with regard to increasing system voltages, and which market trends this development takes into account.
