Battery Safety JIP meeting

  • Maritime Battery Forum 1 Veritasveien Høvik, Viken, 1363 Norway (map)

Every 3rd Friday of the month the MBF Battery Safety Joint Industry Project has a meeting to discuss the next steps in their aim to increase the safety of maritime batteries.

The current objective is to gather input for the Maritime Battery Incident Database and to discuss the continuation of the project in two different working groups.

One working group will be focussed on the integration of batteries on board of ships. They will discuss the current perspective on safety features and determine what knowledge will be needed to further increase the safety of maritime battery systems.

The second working group will be focussed on the emergency response in case of a battery incident on board of ships. What are the preferred, effective procedures to respond to battery fires, whether they are batteries integrated into the ship, or as cargo. Recent events such as the sinking of the Felicity Ace will be used as input for this.
