Batteries are getting better, and batteries are getting bigger! Records of the biggest battery systems installed on board all types of ships are being broken around the world. The MBF is pleased to organize a webinar about 3 of the currently ongoing projects that are pushing the boundaries of marine electrification. From electric bulk carriers, to zero emission CSOVs, to battery powered high speed ferries.
Program
‘A Game-Changer for Bulk Shipping: Advancing Battery Technology as Energy Source’
Petter Nervik, Management Supervisor, Berge Rederi AS
The BRF FROAN is the most ambitious project than any other solutions previously developed. The 129.9 length vessel will be the largest battery powered bulk carrier in the world and will operate on one of the longest sailing distances on battery electric operation. The sailing distance between Elnesvågen and Brønnøy is approximately 230 nautical miles. To by comparison, the battery-powered ship will sail nearly 30 times longer than the currently longest battery route.
‘Decarbonising by Electrifying, First in Class electric CSOV’
Gavin Forward, Newbuild Director, Bibby Marine
Our new eSOV is set to lead the offshore walk-to-work wind market, purpose-built from the ground up to deliver unmatched efficiency and emission reductions. Featuring a market-leading 24.4MWh battery pack, a methanol fuel system, and offshore charging capability, it will be the first truly zero-emission CSOV, capable of operating solely on battery power for a full day's operations. At Bibby Marine, we continue to embrace our pioneering spirit, proving that a smaller player can drive big changes in the industry.’
‘Removing Barriers in Marine Electrification – Making the Impossible Possible’
Halvard Hauso, Commercal Director Europe, Corvus Energy
The world’s largest battery electric ship.
