An update on the REV Ocean project

Earlier this week, we got charged with knowledge on the REV Ocean project. The speakers, Bent Erik Nedrevold and Vidar Selen at Vard Electro, gave a description of the vessel - A state of the art research and expedition vessel.

The REV Ocean has a green profile, equipped with a battery capacity of 3 MWh. During the presentation we got to learn more about the vessel’s hybrid electric propulsion concept, energy management philosophy and redundancy concept.

During the Q&A the speakers further elaborated on the choices behind the sizing of the battery and testing, as well as the main challenges in general.

Several of the forum’s members have been involved in the project:

  • Vard Electro, SeaQ integration

  • Spear Power System, battery supplier

  • DNV GL, classification (Battery Power notation)

The participants seemed to find the webinar of interest and it was nice to see some smiling faces these days. Looking forward to the next webinar!
