Despite the pandemic, the forum’s annual conference, WATTS UP, was carried out on March 10-11th. More than a hundred attendees met online for the two-days conference, getting charged on current battery and hybrid related topics. Click here to read more about this year’s conference.

Vard Electro gave an update on the REV Ocean project - usage of batteries on multifunctional vessels. The speakers, Bent Erik Nedrevold and Vidar Selen at Vard Electro, gave a description of the vessel, as well as it’s hybrid electric propulsion concept, energy management system philosophy and redundancy concept.

Senior Principal Approval Engineer Sverre Eriksen gave an update on the class rules for battery powered vessels (the July 2020 update). He also talked about the type approval program for containerized battery systems.
