OilComp joins the Maritime Battery Forum

The Maritime Battery Forum is thrilled to announce that OilComp is the newest addition to our global community of maritime battery enablers! OilComp is a leading recognized training center and research institute specializing in maritime safety, with a particular focus on lithium-ion batteries and safety at sea.

OilComp

Recognized by the Norwegian Maritime Directorate (NMA) as a trusted training institution, OilComp is committed to delivering comprehensive training programs that adhere to the STCW Convention and relevant regulations.

Following the explosion on board the electric ferry Ytterøyningen on October 10, 2019, an incident which highlighted the urgent need for specialized training in lithium-ion battery safety at sea. Setting the pace, OilComp initiated a comprehensive research and development project in the fall of 2019 with the aim of obtaining a thorough understanding of lithium-ion battery construction, functionality, risks, and other pertinent factors. Through extensive literature studies and collaboration with national and international experts, OilComp's research project culminated in the development of a specialized training portfolio focused on lithium-ion battery safety at sea.

OilComp's commitment to safety and innovation extends beyond incident response to proactive risk mitigation and prevention. By providing comprehensive training in lithium-ion battery safety and maritime operations, individuals can effectively manage accidents and fires but also contribute to the avoidance of such incidents. During the last years OilComp has trained more than 4,000 sailors, fire fighters and others in how to handle a fire in a lithium-ion battery at sea.
