Royal Bodewes joins the Maritime Battery Forum

The Maritime Battery Forum is thrilled to announce that the innovative Dutch shipbuilding company, Royal Bodewes is the newest member to our global community of maritime battery enablers!

Royal Bodewes has been building innovative, sustainable, and cost-efficient vessels, within the range of 1.500 up to 15.000 tons dwat, since 1812. From dry cargo vessels to self-discharging cement carriers and specials, the list of vessels built is extensive. Royal Bodewes is currently building at three yards simultaneously in the north of the Netherlands. Orders consist of advanced vessels, such as highly efficient hybrid powered ships and self-discharging methanol-ready cement carriers.

Aasen Newbuilds

Having previously worked with other MBF members, Royal Bodewes’ giant strides in contributing to a decarbonized maritime industry can be applauded. In close cooperation with Wärtsila, a hybrid system using Corvus batteries was developed to achieve a more efficient and cleaner cargo transport. Royal Bodewes is proud to have been working alongside Aasen Shipping and Wärtsilä to utilize technology and solutions, which ensured these hybrid self-discharging cargo vessels to be able to cut emissions and reduce fuel costs. Quickly after the press release of signing the Aasen vessels, a second contract for three hybrid vessels (5000 tons dwat) was signed for Hagland Shipping. For the Hagland project, the hybrid system was developed by Hoogendijk Electric and battery supplier EST-Floattech. Today, all five vessels have been delivered, and are proving their worth with astonishing good results due to the installed battery packs on board. A wonderful result is that Aasen Shipping has placed a new order for another three hybrid vessels at the end of 2023, similar to their first order.

Hagaland Project

Royal Bodewes understands that becoming emission-free as shipbuilder poses a huge challenge, this informs their commitment to making sure that their vessels contribute significantly to the sustainability journey of the world fleet. By joining the Maritime Battery Forum, Royal Bodewes will gain important information about the different suppliers and types of batteries available, safety rules and regulations for maritime batteries and in turn advise their customers.

As a shipbuilder, with substantial experience building hybrid vessels and an extensive network, our community is proud of this new addition
