Battery in zero-emission ships - Programme by Enova

This programme is aimed at companies that want to take the next step in the use of electrification as a zero-emission technology in ships.

The programme is arranged as a competition with application deadlines. Applications will be ranked according to how much battery (kWh) is installed per subsidy. In addition, the degree of energy efficiency will count in the ranking.

Purpose of the programme

With this programme, Enova wants to help reduce investment costs in maritime battery installations. It will make battery electrification more competitive as a technology for both energy efficiency and zero emissions in ships, which will contribute to a faster green transition of shipping.

If electrification is to be used as a zero-emission solution, this requires that charging infrastructure is available. It will therefore be possible to receive support for dedicated charging infrastructure in this programme if it is necessary to realise a ship project.

Application deadline and important information

The next application deadline is 30 October at 12:00.

Updated documents, including templates and programme criteria for this application round are now published.

Important information. The eligibility criteria have changed. It is now required that the vessels have at least 1/3 of their operations or calls in Norway or in the Norwegian economic zone. In addition, it is now only possible to submit applications for up to five vessels per organisation.

Competitive bidding

Under this programme, investment support is awarded through a competition where applicants compete with each other to have the most cost-effective project. The rules for awarding grants based on competition follow the requirements of the state aid rules. These are described in more detail in the legal basis for the programme and are set out in the conditions for support.

In order to ensure fair competition and equal treatment, competition-based calls for proposals are less open to direct dialogue between the applicant and Enova. Questions related to the terms and conditions for support must be submitted in writing by the deadline stated in the terms and conditions for support. Answers to questions are posted continuously on the page for frequently asked questions.
