WHAT HAPPENED IN APRIL?

The Maritime Battery Forum has won the GREEN4SEA Clean Shipping Award 2024. We are very proud that we have been voted as winner of this award and want to thank all of you who have made it possible for your contributions!

Also this month we have made a start with our Firefighting Guideline as part of the work with our Battery Safety work group. A draft version has been made for the firefighting matrix which will provide a clear overview of different safe firefighting solutions for maritime batteries, and what to keep in mind when selecting a specific type of firefighting system.

Also for our Containerized Battery Standardisation JIP we have made some progress. We have defined 3 categories of maritime battery containers: swappable, flexible, and fixed. We are currently working on the definitions of the swappable battery containers, and we are having discussion on how we can use our efforts to start an interntional standardisation working group for swappable battery containers.

The MBF also joined the exhibition at Mari-Tech, the annual conference of marine engineers in Canada. This year it was hosted in Vancouver, a place with a long history related to maritime battery systems. While in Vancouver, we took the opportunity to organize a Maritime Batteries 101 session at the University of British Columbia. A group of 14 students, battery manufacturers, shipowners, shipdesigners, integrators and more joined us for our introduction course to maritime batteries.

We also have a new member: Hanwha Aerospace! We are very excited to for Hanwha to join our global network of maritime battery enablers! More about our newest member will be announced soon!

Welcome to the Maritime Battery Forum!
