Expanding the World of Maritime Batteries.

Technology. Sustainability. Decarbonization

The Global Community of Maritime Battery Enablers

The Maritime Battery Forum was founded with the aim of promoting new and efficient energy storage technologies in the maritime industry. With over 86 members in 3 continents, the MBF works to disseminate information, facilitate discussion about and review new technology which is complementary to battery technology based solutions or in one way or the other play an important role towards a zero-emission vision.

Our Focus Areas

Technology

We investigate all the ongoing developments on new battery cell technologies, new trends in battery system designs, and innovations on battery safety, and make this information available to our members.

Application

We use our database of battery powered ships to keep track of the market development, identify trends in marine electrification, provide our members & the public with market intelligence, and  opportunities for batteries in shipping.

Safety

We collaborate to define the required safety level. for batteries. We share lessons learned after analysing incidents with batteries and help to solve challenges when it comes to firefighting on board battery powered ships.

Sustainability

Sustainability is a key word in why we do what we do. Batteries are only a part of the energy transition in the maritime industry, but we make sure to do this part well, so that everyone can benefit from our efforts to electrify shipping.

Standardization

There is not one standard battery that suits the needs of all ships. We constantly evaluate the possibilities for standardisation to accelerate the adoption of safe maritime battery solutions with our global community.

Financing

We support our members with the latest insights on creating economically feasible battery powered ships, share interesting financial opportunities for innovative projects and provide them with tools and knowledge to make the right decisions.

Latest Updates

For its Members, By its Members

From the initial 15 founding members, the MBF has grown to more than 70 members in 2023 coming from Europe, North America, and Asia. Our members are companies and public enterprises that engage in maritime transport activities, or are suppliers of goods, services, or R&D, as well as charterers, cargo owners and buyers. These are companies at the forefront of making, using, and understanding maritime batteries

Batteries. Sustainble Solutions

MBF members are active in every corner of the world, and you can find battery powered ships sailing around the world from the North to South and from East to West. By having a strong focus on sharing our information online, our members, government organizations, research institutions and the public at large can benefit and contriibute to the zero emissions future. As the world is up for a significant challenge to decarbonize shipping, the MBF is taking bold steps towards accelerating the adoption of  batteries on board every ship.
